This portrait of a young woman in blue is painted in oils on a weather-worn woodblock and is evocative of worn murals painted on plaster. The solid block gives the painting a sculptural solidity reflective of the properties of a fresco which becomes part of the wall upon which it is painted. This is further suggested by the Madonna like figure typical of religious frescos throughout Europe.
